The Eastern Cape is one of South Africa's most underrated provinces — a vast, diverse region stretching from the malaria-free game reserves around Addo to the rugged, unspoilt beaches of the Wild Coast.
This is the birthplace of Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo, and the province carries a deep cultural and political significance. It's also home to the Big Seven — the Big Five plus great white shark and southern right whale.

Spring (September–November) and autumn (March–May) offer the most pleasant temperatures. August to September is wildflower season in the Karoo. Game viewing is good year-round at Addo.

Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) Airport (PLZ) is the main gateway, with flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town. East London Airport (ELS) serves the northern Wild Coast region.
